2009-12-09RDMA/nes: Fix Xansation test crash on cm_node ref_countFaisal Latif
While running a Xansation test, an active side node crashed. The problem started on the passive side, which generated an STtag that was 0. The passive side sent a TERMINATE instead of an MPA REJECT msg. The active side, receives TERMINATE and sends connect_err() and set the cm_node state to CLOSED. The passive side sends FIN + ACK after TERMINATE. Active side ends up in handle_ack_pkt() and send_reset(). send_reset() consumes 1 cm_node's ref_count. Because the cm_node is in CLOSED state, which means that cm_node will be destroyed after completion of the connect_err() indication, CM will crash after send_reset(). 2009-12-09RDMA/nes: Abnormal listener exit causes loopback node crashFaisal Latif
When the listener is destroyed for a loopback connection, the listener node gets a reset event. This causes a crash as the listener is not expecting a reset event. Code review of cm_event_reset() during debugging showed the cm_id ref count is incremented after calling its event handler and not before. 2009-12-09RDMA/nes: Fix crash in nes_accept()Faisal Latif
While running IMP_EXT's window test, we saw a crash in nes_accept(). Here is the sequence of what happened: (1) In MVAPICH2, connect request is received for port #0. FIX: Add a nes_connect() check to make sure local or remote tcp port is not 0. (2) Remote node's (passive) TCP stack sends a reset when it gets a connect request because of port = 0. Active side set the connect error to IW_CM_EVENT_STATUS_REJECTED when it received the RST from remote node. FIX: The corect error code is -ECONNRESET. (3) Wrong error code of IW_CM_EVENT_STATUS_REJECTED causes the core to destroy its listener ports. Here there are connections that may have sent an MPA request up and waiting for accept or reject. But the listener and its cm_nodes have been freed already causing the crash noticed. FIX: The cm_node is freed only if its state is not NES_CM_STATE_MPAREQ_RCVD. If cm_node's state is NES_CM_STATE_MPAREQ_RCVD then its new state is set to NES_CM_STATE_LISTENER_DESTROYED and it is not freed. When nes_accept() or nes_reject() is received, its state is checked for NES_CM_STATE_LISTENER_DESTROYED and in this case the cm_node is freed and error is returned. 2009-12-09RDMA/nes: Resource not freed for REJECTed connectionsFaisal Latif
During testing of REJECT connection error handling, we saw that the cm_id resources are not released. 2009-11-03cfq-iosched: limit coop preemptionShaohua Li
CFQ has an optimization for cooperated applications. if several io-context have close requests, they will get boost. But the optimization get abused. Considering thread a, b, which work on one file. a reads sectors s, s+2, s+4, ...; b reads sectors s+1, s+3, s +5, ... Both a and b are sequential read, so they can open idle window. a reads a sector s and goes to idle window and wakeup b. b reads sector s+1, since in current implementation, cfq_should_preempt() thinks a and b are cooperators, b will preempt a. b then reads sector s+1 and goes to idle window and wakeup a. for the same reason, a will preempt b and reads s+2. a and b will continue the circle. The circle will be very long, and a and b will occupy whole disk queue. Other applications will nearly have no chance to run. Fix this limiting coop preempt until a queue is scheduled normally again. 2009-11-03Correct nr_processes() when CPUs have been unpluggedIan Campbell
nr_processes() returns the sum of the per cpu counter process_counts for all online CPUs. This counter is incremented for the current CPU on fork() and decremented for the current CPU on exit(). Since a process does not necessarily fork and exit on the same CPU the process_count for an individual CPU can be either positive or negative and effectively has no meaning in isolation. Therefore calculating the sum of process_counts over only the online CPUs omits the processes which were started or stopped on any CPU which has since been unplugged. Only the sum of process_counts across all possible CPUs has meaning. The only caller of nr_processes() is proc_root_getattr() which calculates the number of links to /proc as stat->nlink = proc_root.nlink + nr_processes(); You don't have to be all that unlucky for the nr_processes() to return a negative value leading to a negative number of links (or rather, an apparently enormous number of links). If this happens then you can get failures where things like "ls /proc" start to fail because they got an -EOVERFLOW from some stat() call. Example with some debugging inserted to show what goes on: # ps haux|wc -l nr_processes: CPU0: 90 nr_processes: CPU1: 1030 nr_processes: CPU2: -900 nr_processes: CPU3: -136 nr_processes: TOTAL: 84 proc_root_getattr. nlink 12 + nr_processes() 84 = 96 84 # echo 0 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online # ps haux|wc -l nr_processes: CPU0: 85 nr_processes: CPU2: -901 nr_processes: CPU3: -137 nr_processes: TOTAL: -953 proc_root_getattr. nlink 12 + nr_processes() -953 = -941 75 # stat /proc/ nr_processes: CPU0: 84 nr_processes: CPU2: -901 nr_processes: CPU3: -137 nr_processes: TOTAL: -954 proc_root_getattr. nlink 12 + nr_processes() -954 = -942 File: `/proc/' Size: 0 Blocks: 0 IO Block: 1024 directory Device: 3h/3d Inode: 1 Links: 4294966354 Access: (0555/dr-xr-xr-x) Uid: ( 0/ root) Gid: ( 0/ root) Access: 2009-11-03 09:06:55.000000000 +0000 Modify: 2009-11-03 09:06:55.000000000 +0000 Change: 2009-11-03 09:06:55.000000000 +0000 I'm not 100% convinced that the per_cpu regions remain valid for offline CPUs, although my testing suggests that they do. If not then I think the correct solution would be to aggregate the process_count for a given CPU into a global base value in cpu_down(). This bug appears to pre-date the transition to git and it looks like it may even have been present in linux-2.6.0-test7-bk3 since it looks like the code Rusty patched in http://lwn.net/Articles/64773/ was already wrong. While the exact nature of the failure is not known at the moment, it can be worked around by splitting the yenta resume into an early part, executed during the early phase of resume, that will only resume the socket and power it up if there was a card in it during suspend, and a late part, executed during "regular" resume, that will carry out all of the remaining yenta resume operations. 2009-11-03Input: i8042 - try to get stable CTR value when initializingDmitry Torokhov
If user presses keys while i8042 is being initialized there is a chance that keyboard data will be mistaken for results of Read Control Register command causing futher troubles. Work around this issue by reading CTR several times and stop when we get matching results. Reported-and-tested-by: Dave Young <hidave.darkstar@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Torokhov <dtor@mail.ru>
