2011-07-26frv, exec: remove redundant set_fs(USER_DS)Mathias Krause
The address limit is already set in flush_old_exec() so those calls to set_fs(USER_DS) are redundant. Also removed the dead code in flush_thread(). 2011-03-23mm: NUMA aware alloc_task_struct_node()Eric Dumazet
All kthreads being created from a single helper task, they all use memory from a single node for their kernel stack and task struct. This patch suite creates kthread_create_on_cpu(), adding a 'cpu' parameter to parameters already used by kthread_create(). This parameter serves in allocating memory for the new kthread on its memory node if available. Users of this new function are : ksoftirqd, kworker, migration, pktgend... This patch: Add a node parameter to alloc_task_struct(), and change its name to alloc_task_struct_node() This change is needed to allow NUMA aware kthread_create_on_cpu() Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Acked-by: David S. The big kernel lock has been removed from all these files at some point, leaving only the #include. Remove this too as a cleanup. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-08-18Make do_execve() take a const filename pointerDavid Howells
Make do_execve() take a const filename pointer so that kernel_execve() compiles correctly on ARM: arch/arm/kernel/sys_arm.c:88: warning: passing argument 1 of 'do_execve' discards qualifiers from pointer target type This also requires the argv and envp arguments to be consted twice, once for the pointer array and once for the strings the array points to. This is because do_execve() passes a pointer to the filename (now const) to copy_strings_kernel(). A simpler alternative would be to cast the filename pointer in do_execve() when it's passed to copy_strings_kernel(). do_execve() may not change any of the strings it is passed as part of the argv or envp lists as they are some of them in .rodata, so marking these strings as const should be fine. Further kernel_execve() and sys_execve() need to be changed to match. This has been test built on x86_64, frv, arm and mips. 2010-08-13Mark arguments to certain syscalls as being constDavid Howells
Mark arguments to certain system calls as being const where they should be but aren't. The list includes: (*) The filename arguments of various stat syscalls, execve(), various utimes syscalls and some mount syscalls. (*) The filename arguments of some syscall helpers relating to the above. (*) The buffer argument of various write syscalls. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Acked-by: David S. 2006-07-10[PATCH] FRV: Fix FRV arch compile errorsDavid Howells
Fix some FRV arch compile errors, including: (*) Marking nr_kernel_pages as __meminitdata so that references to it end up being properly calculated rather than being assumed to be in the small data section (and thus calculated wrt the GP register). Not doing this causes the linker to emit errors as the offset is too big to fit into the load instruction. (*) Move pm_power_off into an unconditionally compiled .c file as it's now unconditionally accessed. (*) Declare frv_change_cmode() in a header file rather than in a .c file, and declare it asmlinkage. 2005-11-09[PATCH] sched: disable preempt in idle tasksNick Piggin
Run idle threads with preempt disabled. Also corrected a bugs in arm26's cpu_idle (make it actually call schedule()). How did it ever work before? Might fix the CPU hotplugging hang which Nigel Cunningham noted. We think the bug hits if the idle thread is preempted after checking need_resched() and before going to sleep, then the CPU offlined. After calling stop_machine_run, the CPU eventually returns from preemption and into the idle thread and goes to sleep. The CPU will continue executing previous idle and have no chance to call play_dead. By disabling preemption until we are ready to explicitly schedule, this bug is fixed and the idle threads generally become more robust. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
