2013-01-17sk-filter: Add ability to lock a socket filter programVincent Bernat
While a privileged program can open a raw socket, attach some restrictive filter and drop its privileges (or send the socket to an unprivileged program through some Unix socket), the filter can still be removed or modified by the unprivileged program. This commit adds a socket option to lock the filter (SO_LOCK_FILTER) preventing any modification of a socket filter program. This is similar to OpenBSD BIOCLOCK ioctl on bpf sockets, except even root is not allowed change/drop the filter. The state of the lock can be read with getsockopt(). No error is triggered if the state is not changed. -EPERM is returned when a user tries to remove the lock or to change/remove the filter while the lock is active. The check is done directly in sk_attach_filter() and sk_detach_filter() and does not affect only setsockopt() syscall. Signed-off-by: Vincent Bernat <bernat@luffy.cx> Signed-off-by: David S. Cross-architecture equivalent of rdusp(); default is user_stack_pointer(current_pt_regs()) - that works for almost all platforms that have usp saved in pt_regs. The only exception from that is ia64 - we want memory stack, not the backing store for register one. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2012-12-18h8300: select generic atomic64_t supportFengguang Wu
Rationales from Eric: So I just looked a little deeper and it appears architectures that do not support atomic64_t are broken. The generic atomic64 support came in 2009 to support the perf subsystem with the expectation that all architectures would implement atomic64 support. Furthermore upon inspection of the kernel atomic64_t is used in a fair number of places beyond the performance counters: block/blk-cgroup.c drivers/acpi/apei/ drivers/block/rbd.c drivers/crypto/nx/nx.h drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon.h drivers/infiniband/hw/ipath/ drivers/infiniband/hw/qib/ drivers/staging/octeon/ fs/xfs/ include/linux/perf_event.h include/net/netfilter/nf_conntrack_acct.h kernel/events/ kernel/trace/ net/mac80211/key.h net/rds/ The block control group, infiniband, xfs, crypto, 802.11, netfilter. Nothing quite so fundamental as fs/namespace.c but definitely in multiplatform-code that should work, and is already broken on those architecutres. Looking at the implementation of atomic64_add_return in lib/atomic64.c the code looks as efficient as these kinds of things get. Which leads me to the conclusion that we need atomic64 support on all architectures. Signed-off-by: Fengguang Wu <fengguang.wu@intel.com> Cc: "Eric W. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/signal Pull big execve/kernel_thread/fork unification series from Al Viro: "All architectures are converted to new model. Quite a bit of that stuff is actually shared with architecture trees; in such cases it's literally shared branch pulled by both, not a cherry-pick. A lot of ugliness and black magic is gone (-3KLoC total in this one): - kernel_thread()/kernel_execve()/sys_execve() redesign. We don't do syscalls from kernel anymore for either kernel_thread() or kernel_execve(): kernel_thread() is essentially clone(2) with callback run before we return to userland, the callbacks either never return or do successful do_execve() before returning. kernel_execve() is a wrapper for do_execve() - it doesn't need to do transition to user mode anymore. As a result kernel_thread() and kernel_execve() are arch-independent now - they live in kernel/fork.c and fs/exec.c resp. sys_execve() is also in fs/exec.c and it's completely architecture-independent. - daemonize() is gone, along with its parts in fs/*.c - struct pt_regs * is no longer passed to do_fork/copy_process/ copy_thread/do_execve/search_binary_handler/->load_binary/do_coredump. - sys_fork()/sys_vfork()/sys_clone() unified; some architectures still need wrappers (ones with callee-saved registers not saved in pt_regs on syscall entry), but the main part of those suckers is in kernel/fork.c now." * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/signal: (113 commits) do_coredump(): get rid of pt_regs argument print_fatal_signal(): get rid of pt_regs argument ptrace_signal(): get rid of unused arguments get rid of ptrace_signal_deliver() arguments new helper: signal_pt_regs() unify default ptrace_signal_deliver flagday: kill pt_regs argument of do_fork() death to idle_regs() don't pass regs to copy_process() flagday: don't pass regs to copy_thread() bfin: switch to generic vfork, get rid of pointless wrappers xtensa: switch to generic clone() openrisc: switch to use of generic fork and clone unicore32: switch to generic clone(2) score: switch to generic fork/vfork/clone c6x: sanitize copy_thread(), get rid of clone(2) wrapper, switch to generic clone() take sys_fork/sys_vfork/sys_clone prototypes to linux/syscalls.h mn10300: switch to generic fork/vfork/clone h8300: switch to generic fork/vfork/clone tile: switch to generic clone() ... 2012-11-29new helper: signal_pt_regs()Al Viro
Always equal to task_pt_regs(current); defined only when we are in signal delivery. It may be different from current_pt_regs() - e.g. architectures like m68k may have pt_regs location on exception different from that on a syscall and signals (just as ptrace handling) may happen on exceptions as well as on syscalls. When they are equal, it's often better to have signal_pt_regs defined (in asm/ptrace.h) as current_pt_regs - that tends to be optimized better than default would be. However, optimisation is the only reason why we might want an arch-specific definition; if current_pt_regs() and task_pt_regs(current) have different values, the latter one is right. 2012-11-13tracing,x86: Add a TSC trace_clockDavid Sharp
In order to promote interoperability between userspace tracers and ftrace, add a trace_clock that reports raw TSC values which will then be recorded in the ring buffer. Userspace tracers that also record TSCs are then on exactly the same time base as the kernel and events can be unambiguously interlaced. Tested: Enabled a tracepoint and the "tsc" trace_clock and saw very large timestamp values. v2: Move arch-specific bits out of generic code. v3: Rename "x86-tsc", cleanups v7: Generic arch bits in Kbuild. 2012-11-01sk-filter: Add ability to get socket filter program (v2)Pavel Emelyanov
The SO_ATTACH_FILTER option is set only. I propose to add the get ability by using SO_ATTACH_FILTER in getsockopt. To be less irritating to eyes the SO_GET_FILTER alias to it is declared. This ability is required by checkpoint-restore project to be able to save full state of a socket. There are two issues with getting filter back. First, kernel modifies the sock_filter->code on filter load, thus in order to return the filter element back to user we have to decode it into user-visible constants. Fortunately the modification in question is interconvertible. Second, the BPF_S_ALU_DIV_K code modifies the command argument k to speed up the run-time division by doing kernel_k = reciprocal(user_k). Bad news is that different user_k may result in same kernel_k, so we can't get the original user_k back. Good news is that we don't have to do it. What we need to is calculate a user2_k so, that reciprocal(user2_k) == reciprocal(user_k) == kernel_k i.e. if it's re-loaded back the compiled again value will be exactly the same as it was. That said, the user2_k can be calculated like this user2_k = reciprocal(kernel_k) with an exception, that if kernel_k == 0, then user2_k == 1. The optlen argument is treated like this -- when zero, kernel returns the amount of sock_fprog elements in filter, otherwise it should be large enough for the sock_fprog array. changes since v1: * Declared SO_GET_FILTER in all arch headers * Added decode of vlan-tag codes Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@parallels.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2012-10-13vfs: define struct filename and have getname() return itJeff Layton
getname() is intended to copy pathname strings from userspace into a kernel buffer. The result is just a string in kernel space. It would however be quite helpful to be able to attach some ancillary info to the string. For instance, we could attach some audit-related info to reduce the amount of audit-related processing needed. When auditing is enabled, we could also call getname() on the string more than once and not need to recopy it from userspace. This patchset converts the getname()/putname() interfaces to return a struct instead of a string. For now, the struct just tracks the string in kernel space and the original userland pointer for it. Later, we'll add other information to the struct as it becomes convenient. Signed-off-by: Jeff Layton <jlayton@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2012-10-05cross-arch: don't corrupt personality flags upon exec()Jiri Kosina
Historically, the top three bytes of personality have been used for things such as ADDR_NO_RANDOMIZE, which made sense only for specific architectures. We now however have a flag there that is general no matter the architecture (UNAME26); generally we have to be careful to preserve the personality flags across exec(). This patch tries to fix all architectures that forcefully overwrite personality flags during exec() (ppc32 and s390 have been fixed recently by commits f9783ec862ea ("[S390] Do not clobber personality flags on exec") and 59e4c3a2fe9c ("powerpc/32: Don't clobber personality flags on exec") in a similar way already). git://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/linux-headers into asm-generic Patches from David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>: This is to complete part of the UAPI disintegration for which the preparatory patches were pulled recently. Note that there are some fixup patches which are at the base of the branch aimed at you, plus all arches get the asm-generic branch merged in too. * 'disintegrate-asm-generic' of git://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/linux-headers: UAPI: (Scripted) Disintegrate include/asm-generic UAPI: Fix conditional header installation handling (notably kvm_para.h on m68k) c6x: remove c6x signal.h UAPI: Split compound conditionals containing __KERNEL__ in Arm64 UAPI: Fix the guards on various asm/unistd.h files Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
2012-10-03asm-generic: Add default clkdev.hMark Brown
Ease the deployment of clkdev by providing a default asm/clkdev.h for use if the arch does not have an include/asm/clkdev.h. Due to limitations in Kbuild we manually add clkdev.h to all architectures that don't have one rather than having the header appear by default. Make default just return 0. The current default (checking TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG) is taken to architectures that need it; ones that don't do polling in their idle threads don't need to defined TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG at all. ia64 defined both TS_POLLING (used by its tsk_is_polling()) and TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG (not used at all). 2012-09-28Make most arch asm/module.h files use asm-generic/module.hDavid Howells
Use the mapping of Elf_[SPE]hdr, Elf_Addr, Elf_Sym, Elf_Dyn, Elf_Rel/Rela, ELF_R_TYPE() and ELF_R_SYM() to either the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version into asm-generic/module.h for all arches bar MIPS. Also, use the generic definition mod_arch_specific where possible. To this end, I've defined three new config bools: (*) HAVE_MOD_ARCH_SPECIFIC Arches define this if they don't want to use the empty generic mod_arch_specific struct. (*) MODULES_USE_ELF_RELA Arches define this if their modules can contain RELA records. This causes the Elf_Rela mapping to be emitted and allows apply_relocate_add() to be defined by the arch rather than have the core emit an error message. (*) MODULES_USE_ELF_REL Arches define this if their modules can contain REL records. This causes the Elf_Rel mapping to be emitted and allows apply_relocate() to be defined by the arch rather than have the core emit an error message. Note that it is possible to allow both REL and RELA records: m68k and mips are two arches that do this. With this, some arch asm/module.h files can be deleted entirely and replaced with a generic-y marker in the arch Kbuild file. Additionally, I have removed the bits from m32r and score that handle the unsupported type of relocation record as that's now handled centrally. 2012-09-23h8300: Add missing RCU idle APIs on idle loopFrederic Weisbecker
In the old times, the whole idle task was considered as an RCU quiescent state. But as RCU became more and more successful overtime, some RCU read side critical section have been added even in the code of some architectures idle tasks, for tracing for example. So nowadays, rcu_idle_enter() and rcu_idle_exit() must be called by the architecture to tell RCU about the part in the idle loop that doesn't make use of rcu read side critical sections, typically the part that puts the CPU in low power mode. This is necessary for RCU to find the quiescent states in idle in order to complete grace periods. Add this missing pair of calls in the h8300's idle loop. Reported-by: Paul E.
