2008-10-13x86: wrap MCA_bus test around an ifdefGlauber Costa
Only test for MCA_bus if support for MCA is compiled in. Also, for x86_64, write the code inside the conditional for consistency with i386. It won't bite us, since it'll probably never select CONFIG_MCA anyway. Signed-off-by: Glauber Costa <gcosta@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-10-13x86: replace hardcoded numberGlauber Costa
Replace "4" in time_32.c code by sizeof(long). This way, it can work on x86_64 too. Signed-off-by: Glauber Costa <gcosta@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-10-13x86: coalesce testsGlauber Costa
Coalesce v8086_mode and user_mode into a single user_mode_vm() test. Signed-off-by: Glauber Costa <gcosta@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-10-13x86: use user_mode macroGlauber Costa
Instead of using SEGMENT_IS_KERNEL_CODE, use the "user_mode" macro, which can play the same role. Delete the former, since it now lacks any user. Signed-off-by: Glauber Costa <gcosta@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-07-22x86: time_XX.c declare functions before they get usedJaswinder Singh
Declare time_init() in asm-x86/time.h Also did cleanup in asm-x86/timer.h : timer_ack is only required for X86_32 int recalibrate_cpu_khz(void) is for X86_32 Signed-off-by: Jaswinder Singh <jaswinder@infradead.org>
2008-07-20x86: add ->pre_time_init to x86_quirksYinghai Lu
so NUMAQ can use that to call numaq_pre_time_init() This allows us to remove a NUMAQ special from arch/x86/kernel/setup.c. (and paves the way to remove the NUMAQ subarch) Signed-off-by: Yinghai Lu <yhlu.kernel@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-07-09x86: merge sched_clock handlingAlok Kataria
Move the basic global variable definitions and sched_clock handling in the common "tsc.c" file. - Unify notsc kernel command line handling for 32 bit and 64bit. - Functional changes for 64bit. - "tsc_disabled" is updated if "notsc" is passed at boottime. - Fallback to jiffies for sched_clock, incase notsc is passed on commandline. 2008-07-08x86: I/O APIC: AEOI timer acknowledgement clean-upsMaciej W. Rozycki
The code that used to be in do_slow_gettimeoffset() that relied on the IRR bit of the master 8259A PIC for IRQ0 to check the state of the output timer 0 of the PIT is no longer there. As a result, there is no need to use the POLL command to acknowledge the timer interrupt in the "8259A Virtual Wire", except for the NMI watchdog when the i82489DX APIC is used (this is because this particular APIC treats NMIs as level-triggered and keeping the input asserted would keep motherboard NMI sources held off for too long). Remove the unneeded bits and adjust comments accordingly. Signed-off-by: Maciej W. Rozycki <macro@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

2008-01-30x86: rename the struct pt_regs members for 32/64-bit consistencyH. Peter Anvin
We have a lot of code which differs only by the naming of specific members of structures that contain registers. In order to enable additional unifications, this patch drops the e- or r- size prefix from the register names in struct pt_regs, and drops the x- prefixes for segment registers on the 32-bit side. This patch also performs the equivalent renames in some additional places that might be candidates for unification in the future. Signed-off-by: H. 2008-01-30x86: move 8259 defines to i8259.hThomas Gleixner
Move the i8259 defines and remove the now io_ports.h Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-01-30x86: isolate the rtc code for sharingThomas Gleixner
The mach-default/mach_time.h code inline is moved to arch/x86/kernel/rtc.c and the header files are adjusted. Shrink the 3 dozen includes to the ones we really need. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2007-10-13Delete filenames in comments.Dave Jones
Since the x86 merge, lots of files that referenced their own filenames are no longer correct. Rather than keep them up to date, just delete them, as they add no real value. Additionally: - fix up comment formatting in scx200_32.c - Remove a credit from myself in setup_64.c from a time when we had no SCM - remove longwinded history from tsc_32.c which can be figured out from git. 2007-10-12x86: Fix irq0 / local apic timer accountingThomas Gleixner
The clock events merge introduced a change to the nmi watchdog code to handle the not longer increasing local apic timer count in the broadcast mode. This is fine for UP, but on SMP it pampers over a stuck CPU which is not handling the broadcast interrupt due to the unconditional sum up of local apic timer count and irq0 count. To cover all cases we need to keep track on which CPU irq0 is handled. In theory this is CPU#0 due to the explicit disabling of irq balancing for irq0, but there are systems which ignore this on the hardware level. The per cpu irq0 accounting allows us to remove the irq0 to CPU0 binding as well. Add a per cpu counter for irq0 and evaluate this instead of the global irq0 count in the nmi watchdog code.
