2009-04-04x86, ACPI: add support for x2apic ACPI extensionsSuresh Siddha
All logical processors with APIC ID values of 255 and greater will have their APIC reported through Processor X2APIC structure (type-9 entry type) and all logical processors with APIC ID less than 255 will have their APIC reported through legacy Processor Local APIC (type-0 entry type) only. This is the same case even for NMI structure reporting. The Processor X2APIC Affinity structure provides the association between the X2APIC ID of a logical processor and the proximity domain to which the logical processor belongs. For OSPM, Procssor IDs outside the 0-254 range are to be declared as Device() objects in the ACPI namespace. 2009-02-09acpi/x86: introduce __apci_map_table, v4Yinghai Lu
to prevent wrongly overwriting fixmap that still want to use. ACPI used to rely on low mappings being all linearly mapped and grew a habit: it never really unmapped certain kinds of tables after use. This can cause problems - for example the hypothetical case when some spurious access still references it. v2: remove prev_map and prev_size in __apci_map_table v3: let acpi_os_unmap_memory() call early_iounmap too, so remove extral calling to early_acpi_os_unmap_memory v4: fix typo in one acpi_get_table_with_size calling Signed-off-by: Yinghai Lu <yhlu.kernel@gmail.com> Acked-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2009-02-06ACPI: disable ACPI cleanly when bad RSDP foundLen Brown
When ACPI is disabled in the BIOS of this VIA C3 box, it invalidates the RSDP, which Linux notices: ACPI Error (tbxfroot-0218): A valid RSDP was not found [20080926] Bug Linux neglected to disable ACPI at that stage, and later scribbled on smp_found_config: ACPI: No APIC-table, disabling MPS But this box doesn't run well in legacy PIC mode, it needed IOAPIC mode to perform correctly: http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/2/5/39 So exit ACPI mode cleanly when we first detect that it is hopeless. 2008-08-21acpi: add checking for NULL early paramCyrill Gorcunov
The early_param handling function could recieve NULL pointer as argument in case if user didn't enter parameter value. So we have to be ready for a such situation and do check for NULL pointer if needed. 2007-03-11ACPI: Add support to parse 2nd MADTLen Brown
When a BIOS bug presents multiple APIC/MADTs, Linux currently uses the 1st and ignores the 2nd. But some machines work better if we use the 2nd. http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7465 Add a warning and boot parameter "acpi_apic_instance=2" to allow parsing the 2nd. No change to default behaviour in this patch. Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). 2007-02-13ACPI: acpi_table_parse_madt_family() is not MADT specificLen Brown
acpi_table_parse_madt_family() is also used to parse SRAT entries. So re-name it to acpi_table_parse_entries(), and re-name the madt-specific variables within it accordingly. cosmetic only. Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2007-02-13ACPI: acpi_madt_entry_handler() is not MADT specificLen Brown

Implemented header file support for the following additional ACPI tables: ASF!, BOOT, CPEP, DBGP, MCFG, SPCR, SPMI, TCPA, and WDRT. With this support, all current and known ACPI tables are now defined in the ACPICA headers and are available for use by device drivers and other software. Implemented support to allow tables that contain ACPI names with invalid characters to be loaded. Previously, this would cause the table load to fail, but since there are several known cases of such tables on existing machines, this change was made to enable ACPI support for them. Also, this matches the behavior of the Microsoft ACPI implementation. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=147621 Fixed a couple regressions introduced during the memory optimization in the 20060317 release. The namespace node definition required additional reorganization and an internal datatype that had been changed to 8-bit was restored to 32-bit. (Valery Podrezov) Fixed a problem where a null pointer passed to acpi_ut_delete_generic_state() could be passed through to acpi_os_release_object which is unexpected. Such null pointers are now trapped and ignored, matching the behavior of the previous implementation before the deployment of acpi_os_release_object(). (Valery Podrezov, Fiodor Suietov) Fixed a memory mapping leak during the deletion of a SystemMemory operation region where a cached memory mapping was not deleted. This became a noticeable problem for operation regions that are defined within frequently used control methods. (Dana Meyers) Reorganized the ACPI table header files into two main files: one for the ACPI tables consumed by the ACPICA core, and another for the miscellaneous ACPI tables that are consumed by the drivers and other software. The various FADT definitions were merged into one common section and three different tables (ACPI 1.0, 1.0+, and 2.0) Signed-off-by: Bob Moore <robert.moore@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
