2013-01-03Drivers: mtd: remove __dev* attributes.Greg Kroah-Hartman
CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev* markings need to be removed. This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, and __devexit from these drivers. Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand. This patch fix pmecc's read_page() to return maximum number of bitflips, 0 if uncorrectable. In the commit: 3f91e94f7f511de74c0d2abe08672ccdbdd1961c ("mtd: nand: read_page() returns max_bitflips ()"), The ecc.read_page() is changed to return the maximum number of bitflips. And when meet uncorrectable bitflips it needs to return 0. 2012-07-06mtd: at91: atmel_nand: add Programmable Multibit ECC controller supportJosh Wu
The Programmable Multibit ECC (PMECC) controller is a programmable binary BCH(Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem) encoder and decoder. This controller can be used to support both SLC and MLC NAND Flash devices. It supports to generate ECC to correct 2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 bits of error per sector of data. To use PMECC in this driver, the user needs to set the address and size of PMECC, PMECC error location controllers and ROM. And also needs to pass the correction capability, the sector size and ROM lookup table offsets via dt. This driver has been tested on AT91SAM9X5-EK and AT91SAM9N12-EK with JFFS2, YAFFS2, UBIFS and mtd-utils. 2012-05-14mtd: nand: add 'oob_required' argument to NAND {read,write}_page interfacesBrian Norris
New NAND controllers can perform read/write via HW engines which don't expose OOB data in their DMA mode. To reflect this, we should rework the nand_chip / nand_ecc_ctrl interfaces that assume that drivers will always read/write OOB data in the nand_chip.oob_poi buffer. A better interface includes a boolean argument that explicitly tells the callee when OOB data is requested by the calling layer (for reading/writing to/from nand_chip.oob_poi). This patch adds the 'oob_required' parameter to each relevant {read,write}_page interface; all 'oob_required' parameters are left unused for now. The next patch will set the parameter properly in the nand_base.c callers, and follow-up patches will make use of 'oob_required' in some of the callee functions. Note that currently, there is no harm in ignoring the 'oob_required' parameter and *always* utilizing nand_chip.oob_poi, but there can be performance/complexity/design benefits from avoiding filling oob_poi in the common case. I will try to implement this for some drivers which can be ported easily. Note: I couldn't compile-test all of these easily, as some had ARCH dependencies. Flash device drivers initialize 'ecc_strength' in struct mtd_info, which is the maximum number of bit errors that can be corrected in one writesize region. Drivers using the nand interface intitialize 'strength' in struct nand_ecc_ctrl, which is the maximum number of bit errors that can be corrected in one ecc step. Nand infrastructure code translates this to 'ecc_strength'. Also for nand drivers, the nand infrastructure code sets ecc.strength for ecc modes NAND_ECC_SOFT, NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH, and NAND_ECC_NONE. It is set in the driver for all other modes. This patch works with the following three flags from two headers (nand.h and bbm.h): (1) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (nand.h) (2) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (nand.h) (3) NAND_BBT_NO_OOB (bbm.h) These flags are all related and interdependent, yet they were in different headers. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and can be eliminated. This patch accomplishes the following: * eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2)) * move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field. I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h. 2011-06-22net: remove mm.h inclusion from netdevice.hAlexey Dobriyan
Remove linux/mm.h inclusion from netdevice.h -- it's unused (I've checked manually). To prevent mm.h inclusion via other channels also extract "enum dma_data_direction" definition into separate header. This tiny piece is what gluing netdevice.h with mm.h via "netdevice.h => dmaengine.h => dma-mapping.h => scatterlist.h => mm.h". Removal of mm.h from scatterlist.h was tried and was found not feasible on most archs, so the link was cutoff earlier. Hope people are OK with tiny include file. The functions that write the OOB info (on hardware ECC only) use the HW_SYNDROME method. This is not correct : the start position is "pos = eccsize + chunk" and should be eccsize. So, the standard (nand_write_oob_std) function should be used. This patch corrects this by using NAND_ECC_HW instead of NAND_ECC_HW_SYNDROME. This has only been tested on small pages nand flash. 2008-07-11[MTD] [NAND] atmel_nand speedup via {read,write}s{b,w}()David Brownell
This uses __raw_{read,write}s{b,w}() primitives to access data on NAND chips for more efficient I/O. On an arm926 with memory clocked at 100 MHz, this reduced the elapsed time for a 64 MiB read by 16%. ("dd" /dev/mtd0 to /dev/null, with an 8-bit NAND using hardware ECC and 128KiB blocksize.) Also some minor section tweaks: - Use platform_driver_probe() so no pointer to probe() lingers after that code has been removed at run-time. - Use __exit and __exit_p so the remove() code will normally be removed by the linker. Since these buffer read/write calls are new, this increases the runtime code footprint (by 88 bytes on my build, after the section tweaks).
