2011-11-01backlight: rename corgibl_limit_intensity() to genericbl_limit_intensity()Axel Lin
The rename of corgibl_limit_intensity is missed in commit d00ba726 ("backlight: Rename the corgi backlight driver to generic"). Let's fix it now. 2011-11-01backlight: fix broken regulator API usage in l4f00242t03Mark Brown
The regulator support in the l4f00242t03 is very non-idiomatic. Rather than requesting the regulators based on the device name and the supply names used by the device the driver requires boards to pass system specific supply names around through platform data. The driver also conditionally requests the regulators based on this platform data, adding unneeded conditional code to the driver. Fix this by removing the platform data and converting to the standard idiom, also updating all in tree users of the driver. As no datasheet appears to be available for the LCD I'm guessing the names for the supplies based on the existing users and I've no ability to do anything more than compile test. The use of regulator_set_voltage() in the driver is also problematic, since fixed voltages are required the expectation would be that the voltages would be fixed in the constraints set by the machines rather than manually configured by the driver, but is less problematic. 2011-09-10backlight: Declare backlight_types[] constBart Van Assche
Since backlight_types[] isn't modified, let's declare it const. That was probably the intention of the author of commit bb7ca747f8d6 ("backlight: add backlight type"), via which the "const char const *" construct was introduced. 2011-08-04drivers/video/backlight/aat2870_bl.c: fix setting max_currentAxel Lin
- Current implementation tests wrong value for setting aat2870_bl->max_current. - In the current implementation, we cannot differentiate between 2 cases: a) if pdata->max_current is not set , or b) pdata->max_current is set to AAT2870_CURRENT_0_45 (which is also 0). 2011-05-26mfd: Use mfd cell platform_data for 88pm860x cells platform bitsSamuel Ortiz

2011-03-23pwm_backlight: add check_fb() hookRobert Morell
In systems with multiple framebuffer devices, one of the devices might be blanked while another is unblanked. In order for the backlight blanking logic to know whether to turn off the backlight for a particular framebuffer's blanking notification, it needs to be able to check if a given framebuffer device corresponds to the backlight. This plumbs the check_fb hook from core backlight through the pwm_backlight helper to allow platform code to plug in a check_fb hook. 2011-03-23mbp_nvidia_bl: remove DMI dependencyMatthew Garrett
This driver only has to deal with two different classes of hardware, but right now it needs new DMI entries for every new machine. This was not experienced before implementing correctly all the LCD power states with the patch [1]. 2010-11-16backlight: constify backlight_opsLionel Debroux
backlight_device_register has been expecting a const "ops" argument, and using it as such, since 9905a43b2d563e6f89e4c63c4278ada03f2ebb14. Let's make the remaining backlight_ops instances const. Inspired by hunks of the grsecurity patch, updated for newer kernels. 2010-11-12drivers/video/backlight/adp8860_bl.c: fix ambient light zone overwrite handlingMichael Hennerich
This affects the get/set of the current Ambient Light Zone. Reading should return an integer between 1..3 (1 = Daylight, 2 = office, 3 = dark). Writing a value between 1..3 forces the backlight controller to enter the corresponding Ambient Light Zone. Writing 0 returns to normal operation. Fix valid range checking so we don't write invalid values to the controller, and make sure we subtract 1, since this is what the register definition (CFGR:BLV) requires. Otherwise the values written don't work correctly. 2010-11-12backlight: add low threshold to pwm backlightArun Murthy
The intensity of the backlight can be varied from a range of max_brightness to zero. Though most, if not all the pwm based backlight devices start flickering at lower brightness value. And also for each device there exists a brightness value below which the backlight appears to be turned off though the value is not equal to zero. If the range of brightness for a device is from zero to max_brightness. A graph is plotted for brightness Vs intensity for the pwm based backlight device has to be a linear graph. intensity | / | / | / |/ --------- 0 max_brightness But pratically on measuring the above we note that the intensity of backlight goes to zero(OFF) when the value in not zero almost nearing to zero(some x%). so the graph looks like intensity | / | / | / | | ------------ 0 x max_brightness In order to overcome this drawback knowing this x% i.e nothing but the low threshold beyond which the backlight is off and will have no effect, the brightness value is being offset by the low threshold value(retaining the linearity of the graph). Now the graph becomes intensity | / | / | / | / ------------- 0 max_brightness With this for each and every digit increment in the brightness from zero there is a change in the intensity of backlight. Devices having this behaviour can set the low threshold brightness(lth_brightness) and pass the same as platform data else can have it as zero.
