2012-07-14don't pass nameidata to ->create()Al Viro
boolean "does it have to be exclusive?" flag is passed instead; Local filesystem should just ignore it - the object is guaranteed not to be there yet. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-07-14stop passing nameidata to ->lookup()Al Viro
Just the flags; only NFS cares even about that, but there are legitimate uses for such argument. And getting rid of that completely would require splitting ->lookup() into a couple of methods (at least), so let's leave that alone for now... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-07-14affs: get rid of affs_sync_superArtem Bityutskiy
This patch makes affs stop using the VFS '->write_super()' method along with the 's_dirt' superblock flag, because they are on their way out. The whole "superblock write-out" VFS infrastructure is served by the 'sync_supers()' kernel thread, which wakes up every 5 (by default) seconds and writes out all dirty superblocks using the '->write_super()' call-back. But the problem with this thread is that it wastes power by waking up the system every 5 seconds, even if there are no diry superblocks, or there are no client file-systems which would need this (e.g., btrfs does not use '->write_super()'). So we want to kill it completely and thus, we need to make file-systems to stop using the '->write_super()' VFS service, and then remove it together with the kernel thread. 2012-07-14affs: introduce VFS superblock object back-referenceArtem Bityutskiy
Add an 'sb' VFS superblock back-reference to the 'struct affs_sb_info' data structure - we will need to find the VFS superblock from a 'struct affs_sb_info' object in the next patch, so this change is jut a preparation. 2012-01-04switch ->create() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_create() ignores everything outside of 16bit subset of its mode argument; switching it to umode_t is obviously equivalent and it's the only caller of the method Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-01-04switch vfs_mkdir() and ->mkdir() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_mkdir() gets int, but immediately drops everything that might not fit into umode_t and that's the only caller of ->mkdir()... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2011-07-21fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlersJosef Bacik
Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. 2010-03-05pass writeback_control to ->write_inodeChristoph Hellwig
This gives the filesystem more information about the writeback that is happening. Trond requested this for the NFS unstable write handling, and other filesystems might benefit from this too by beeing able to distinguish between the different callers in more detail. 2010-01-27Fix remount races with symlink handling in affsAl Viro
A couple of fields in affs_sb_info is used in follow_link() and symlink() for handling AFFS "absolute" symlinks. Need locking against affs_remount() updates. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2009-06-12sanitize ->fsync() for affsAl Viro
unfortunately, for affs (especially for affs directories) we have no real way to keep track of metadata ownership. So we have to do more or less what file_fsync() does, but we do *not* need to call write_super() there. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2008-05-06[PATCH] fix reservation discarding in affsRoman Zippel
- remove affs_put_inode, so preallocations aren't discared unnecessarily often. - remove affs_drop_inode, it's called with a spinlock held, so it can't use a mutex. - make i_opencnt atomic - avoid direct b_count manipulations - a few allocation failure fixes, so that these are more gracefully handled now. 2008-02-07iget: stop AFFS from using iget() and read_inode()David Howells
Stop the AFFS filesystem from using iget() and read_inode(). Replace affs_read_inode() with affs_iget(), and call that instead of iget(). affs_iget() then uses iget_locked() directly and returns a proper error code instead of an inode in the event of an error. affs_fill_super() returns any error incurred when getting the root inode instead of EINVAL. 2007-02-21[PATCH] affs: implement ->drop_inodeChristoph Hellwig
affs wants to truncate the inode when the last user goes away, currently it does that through a potentially racy i_count check in ->put_inode. But we already have a method that's called just after the we dropped the last reference, ->drop_inode. This patch implements affs_drop_inode to take advantage of this. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 1Arjan van de Ven
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-06-28[PATCH] mark address_space_operations constChristoph Hellwig

2006-03-28[PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
