2008-04-23nfs: remove unnecessary NFS_NEED_* definesJ. Bruce Fields
Thanks to Robert Day for pointing out that these two defines are unused. Signed-off-by: J. Bruce Fields <bfields@citi.umich.edu> Cc: Trond Myklebust <trond@netapp.com>Trond Myklebust <trond@netapp.com> Cc: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Cc: "Robert P. J. Day" <rpjday@crashcourse.ca>
2007-05-08header cleaning: don't include smp_lock.h when not usedRandy Dunlap
Remove includes of <linux/smp_lock.h> where it is not used/needed. Suggested by Al Viro. Builds cleanly on x86_64, i386, alpha, ia64, powerpc, sparc, sparc64, and arm (all 59 defconfigs). 2007-05-07mm: make read_cache_page synchronousNick Piggin
Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls. I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7 possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in block2mtd. All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return with a !uptodate page. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2007-01-24[PATCH] NFS: Fix races in nfs_revalidate_mapping()Trond Myklebust
Prevent the call to invalidate_inode_pages2() from racing with file writes by taking the inode->i_mutex across the page cache flush and invalidate. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2006-12-06NFS: Remove use of the Big Kernel Lock around nfs calls to readlinkFrank Filz
Remove use of the Big Kernel Lock around indirect calls to nfs3_proc_readlink and nfs4_proc_readlink, both of which basically call rpc_call_sync. Signed-off-by: Frank Filz <ffilz@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>

2006-06-09NFS: Separate metadata and page cache revalidation mechanismsTrond Myklebust
Separate out the function of revalidating the inode metadata, and revalidating the mapping. The former may be called by lookup(), and only really needs to check that permissions, ctime, etc haven't changed whereas the latter needs only done when we want to read data from the page cache, and may need to sync and then invalidate the mapping. 2005-08-20Fix nasty ncpfs symlink handling bug.Linus Torvalds
This bug could cause oopses and page state corruption, because ncpfs used the generic page-cache symlink handlign functions. But those functions only work if the page cache is guaranteed to be "stable", ie a page that was installed when the symlink walk was started has to still be installed in the page cache at the end of the walk. We could have fixed ncpfs to not use the generic helper routines, but it is in many ways much cleaner to instead improve on the symlink walking helper routines so that they don't require that absolute stability. We do this by allowing "follow_link()" to return a error-pointer as a cookie, which is fed back to the cleanup "put_link()" routine. This also simplifies NFS symlink handling. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
