2009-06-12General help message cleanupWolfgang Denk
Many of the help messages were not really helpful; for example, many commands that take no arguments would not print a correct synopsis line, but "No additional help available." which is not exactly wrong, but not helpful either. Commit ``Make "usage" messages more helpful.'' changed this partially. But it also became clear that lots of "Usage" and "Help" messages (fields "usage" and "help" in struct cmd_tbl_s respective) were actually redundant. This patch cleans this up - for example: Before: => help dtt dtt - Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt - Read temperature from digital thermometer and thermostat. After: => help dtt dtt - Read temperature from Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
2009-06-12arm: unify linker scriptJean-Christophe PLAGNIOL-VILLARD

2009-06-03Redundant Environment: protect full sector sizeWolfgang Denk
Several boards used different ways to specify the size of the protected area when enabling flash write protection for the sectors holding the environment variables: some used CONFIG_ENV_SIZE and CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND, some used CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE, and some even a mix of both for the "normal" and the "redundant" areas. Normally, this makes no difference at all. However, things are different when you have to deal with boards that can come with different types of flash chips, which may have different sector sizes. Here we may have to chose CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE such that it fits the biggest sector size, which may include several sectors on boards using the smaller sector flash types. In such a case, using CONFIG_ENV_SIZE or CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND to enable the protection may lead to the case that only the first of these sectors get protected, while the following ones aren't. This is no real problem, but it can be confusing for the user - especially on boards that use CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE to protect the "normal" areas, while using CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND for the "redundant" area. To avoid such inconsistencies, I changed all sucn boards that I found to consistently use CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE for protection. This should not cause any functional changes to the code. 2009-04-27Replace __asm references with __asm__Peter Tyser
__asm__ follows gcc's documented syntax and is generally more common than __asm. This change is only asthetic and should not affect functionality. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
2009-03-20Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho
A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>

2008-12-16board/trab/memory.c: Fix compile problems.Wolfgang Denk
Apply changes from commit 44b4dbed to board/trab/memory.c, too. Actually we'd need a major cleanup here - as it turns out, board/trab/memory.c is more or less a verbatim copy of post/drivers/memory.c ... but then, trab is EOL anyway,r so this is not worth the effort. 2008-06-11Change bd/gd memsize/ram_size to be phys_size_t.Becky Bruce
Currently, both are defined as an unsigned long, but should be phys_size_t. This should result in no real change, since phys_size_t is currently an unsigned long for all the default configs. Also add print_lnum to cmd_bdinfo to deal with the potentially wider memsize. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>
2008-05-20Big white-space cleanup.Wolfgang Denk

Also remove all embedded "vim:" and "vi:" statements which hide indentation problems. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>

2008-02-29[new uImage] Update naming convention for bootm/uImage related codeMarian Balakowicz
This patch introduces the following prefix convention for the image format handling and bootm related code: genimg_ - dual format shared code image_ - legacy uImage format specific code fit_ - new uImage format specific code boot_ - booting process related code Related routines are renamed and a few pieces of code are moved around and re-grouped. 2008-02-25[new uImage] Add dual format uImage support frameworkMarian Balakowicz
This patch adds framework for dual format images. Format detection is added and the bootm controll flow is updated to include cases for new FIT format uImages. When the legacy (image_header based) format is detected appropriate legacy specific handling is invoked. For the new (FIT based) format uImages dual boot framework has a minial support, that will only print out a corresponding debug messages. Implementation of the FIT specific handling will be added in following patches. Signed-off-by: Marian Balakowicz <m8@semihalf.com>

2008-01-12Fix linker scripts: add NOLOAD atribute to .bss/.sbss sectionsWolfgang Denk
With recent toolchain versions, some boards would not build because or errors like this one (here for ocotea board when building with ELDK 4.2 beta): ppc_4xx-ld: section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff23b] overlaps section .bss [fffee900 -> fffff8ab] For many boards, the .bss section is big enough that it wraps around at the end of the address space (0xFFFFFFFF), so the problem will not be visible unless you use a 64 bit tool chain for development. On some boards however, changes to the code size (due to different optimizations) we bail out with section overlaps like above. The fix is to add the NOLOAD attribute to the .bss and .sbss sections, telling the linker that .bss does not consume any space in the image. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
2007-08-12Adapt board configuration and fix kernel crash on MCC200 board.Wolfgang Denk
The update procedure was modified to turn off the USB subsystem before exit for MCC200 and TRAB. This is necessary as otherwise the USB controller continues to write periodically to system memory! 2006-09-01Add support for a saving build objects in a separate directory.Marian Balakowicz
Modifications are based on the linux kernel approach and support two use cases: 1) Add O= to the make command line 'make O=/tmp/build all' 2) Set environement variable BUILD_DIR to point to the desired location 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' 'make' The second approach can also be used with a MAKEALL script 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' './MAKEALL' Command line 'O=' setting overrides BUILD_DIR environent variable. When none of the above methods is used the local build is performed and the object files are placed in the source directory.

2006-07-19Adjust filenames for USB update images on TRAB board.Wolfgang Denk
During an automatic update via USB stick, U-Boot searches for images with the name "firmware.img" and "kernel.img". This names are now changed to "firmw_01.img" and "kernl_01.img". This is done, to prevent updates of new boards (with the new macronics "c" step flashes) with old, incompatible firmware or kernel versions. Patch by Martin Krause, 21 Jun 2006
