2014-07-08ACPICA: Utilities: Add formatted printing APIsLv Zheng
This patch introduces formatted printing APIs to handle ACPICA specific formatted print requirements. Currently only specific OSPMs will use this customized printing support, Linux kernel doesn't use these APIs at this time. It will be enabled for Linux kernel resident ACPICA after being well tested. So currently this patch is a no-op. The specific formatted printing APIs are useful to ACPICA as: 1. Some portable applications do not link standard C library, so they cannot use standard formatted print APIs directly. 2. Platform specific printing format may differ and thus not portable, for example, u64 is %ull for Linux kernel and is %uI64 for some MSVC versions. 3. Platform specific printing format may conflict with ACPICA's usages while it is not possible for ACPICA developers to test their code for all platforms. For example, developers may generate %pRxxx while Linux kernel treats %pR as structured resource printing and decodes variable argument as a "struct resource" pointer. This patch solves above issues by introducing the new APIs. Note that users of such APIs are not introduced in this patch. Users of acpi_os_file_vprintf()/acpi_ut_file_printf() need to invoke acpi_os_initialize(), this should be taken care by the further patches where such users are introduced. Lv Zheng. 2014-07-08ACPICA: OSL: Clean up acpi_os_printf()/acpi_os_vprintf() stubsLv Zheng
This patch is mainly for acpidump where there are redundant acpi_os_printf()/acpi_os_vprintf() stubs implemented. This patch cleans up such specific implementation by linking acpidump to osunixxf.c/oswinxf.c. To make acpi_os_printf() exported by osunixxf.c/oswinxf.c to behave as the old acpidump specific ones, applications need to: 1. Initialize acpi_gbl_db_output_flags to ACPI_DB_CONSOLE_OUTPUT. This is automatically done by ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL(), applications need to link utglobal.o to utilize this mechanism. 2. Initialize acpi_gbl_output_file to stdout. For GCC, assigning stdout to acpi_gbl_output_file using ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL() is not possible as stdout is not a constant in GCC environment. As an alternative solution, stdout assignment is put into acpi_os_initialize(). Thus acpi_os_initialize() need to be invoked very early by the applications to initialize the default output of acpi_os_printf(). This patch also releases osunixxf.c to the Linux kernel. Lv Zheng. 2014-07-08ACPICA: Utilities: Fix an issue with non-native ACPI_IS_PRINT()Lv Zheng
An error was found in the ACPICA provided non-native ACPI_IS_PRINT() causing the following difference with the native isprint() implementation: The GNU libc isprint('\n') test result: isprint(0x20) is FALSE The Linux kernel isprint('\n') test result: ACPI: isprint(0x20) is FALSE The _acpi_ctype isprint('\n') test result: isprint(0x20) is TRUE The ACPI_IS_PRINT() macro generated for _acpi_ctype is wrong. It should use _ACPI_XS instead of _ACPI_SP. _ACPI_XS is white space only. Other space characters should be non printable. This patch fixes this issue. For OSPMs that are using native standard isprint() implementations, this patch is a no-op. Lv Zheng. 2014-04-20ACPICA: Disassembler: Add support to decode _HID and _CID values.Bob Moore
For _HID and _CID, the disassembler will emit a string that describes the device if the _HID/_CID value is recognized. acpihelp updated also. acpihelp will now search for a specific ID as well as displaying the list of "known" (to ACPICA) IDs. This patch does not affect Linux kernel behavior as the disassembler and the acpihelp are not shipped with it. 2014-02-26ACPICA: Headers: Deploy #pragma pack (push) and (pop).Bob Moore
Use push and pop to both guarantee that the correct alignment is used, and to restore the alignment to whatever it was before the header was included. It is reported that the #pragma pack(push/pop) directives are not supported by the specific GCCs, but this patch still doesn't affect kernel build as there are already #pragma pack([1]) directives used in the old ACPICA headers, which means there shouldn't be GCCs that are currently used to compile the ACPI kernels do not support #pragma pack() directives. 2014-02-10ACPICA: Update the conditions to enable the utility resource dump strings.Lv Zheng
This patch enables resource dump functions for debugging purpose where ACPI_DEBUG_OUTPUT is enabled. Such functions are useful for developers to track kernel issues when composing debugging patches. They will be optimized out during link stage for normal builds. 2013-10-30ACPICA: Cleanup memory allocation macros and configurability.Lv Zheng
In the common case, the ACPI_ALLOCATE and related macros now resolve directly to their respective acpi_os* OSL interfaces. Two options: 1) The ACPI_ALLOCATE_ZEROED macro defaults to a simple local implementation by default, unless overridden by the USE_NATIVE_ALLOCATE_ZEROED define. 2) For ACPI execution simulation environment (AcpiExec) which is not shipped with the Linux kernel, the macros can optionally be resolved to the local interfaces that track each allocation (used to immediately detect memory leaks). 2013-10-30ACPICA: Add safe versions of common string functions.Bob Moore
This change adds and deploys "safe" versions of strcpy and strcat that ensure that the target buffer does not overflow. These safe functions are only helpful for processing user input and command lines. For most ACPICA code however, the required buffer length is precisely calculated before buffer allocation, so the use of these functions is unnecessary. ACPICA BZ 1043. This change only applies to the ACPICA utilities and the debugger, none of which are not shipped with the kernel yet, so the kernel's behavior remains unchanged after it. 2013-07-23ACPICA: Add acpi_update_interfaces() public interfaceLv Zheng
Add new API to allow OSPM to disable/enable specific types of _OSI interface strings. ACPICA does not have the knowledge about whether an _OSI interface string is an OS vendor string or a feature group string and there isn't any API interface to allow OSPM to install a new interface string as a feature group string. This patch simply adds all feature group strings defined by ACPI specification into the acpi_default_supported_interfaces with ACPI_OSI_FEATURE flag set to fix this gap. This patch also adds codes to keep their default states as ACPI_OSI_INVALID before the initialization and after the termination. Was 256 bytes max. The original purpose of this constraint was to limit the amount of debug output. 2012-11-14ACPICA: Fix divergences of definition conflicts.Lv Zheng
There are conflicts in the "acpi_device_id*" definitions between the Linux and the ACPICA. The definitions of acpi_device_id* in ACPICA have been changed to the "acpi_pnp_device_id*". Utility improvements in ACPICA are partial ignored by ACPICA Linux release. This will lead to divergences between Linux and ACPICA. This patch ports the entire "utility" into Linux and makes them igored in the compilation stage by "ACPI_FUTURE_USAGE". The following "Utility" files have been ported into the Linux: drivers/acpi/uttrack.c drivers/acpi/utcache.c drivers/acpi/utids.c This patch will not affect the generated vmlinx binary. 2012-11-14Cleanup of invalid ACPI name handling and repairBob Moore
Implemented a change/cleanup for the handling of invalid ACPI names. Names are now validated and repaired only when 1) entering a new name into the namespace and 2) disassembling a named AML opcode. A warning is only displayed in debug mode or when the interpreter is in "strict" mode, since some working machines do in fact contain invalid ACPI names. 2010-10-01ACPICA/ACPI: Add new host interfaces for _OSI supportLin Ming
Adds install/remove interfaces so that the host can dynamically alter the global _OSI table. Also adds support for _OSI handlers. Additional support: new debugger command (osi), and test support in the acpiexec utility. Adds new file, utilities/utosi.c. ACPICA bugzilla 836. The Linux OSL _OSI code is also changed. acpi_osi_setup can't call acpi_install/remove_interface because ACPICA is not initialized yet at this early time.
