2012-03-21hfsplus: add an ioctl to bless filesMatthew Garrett
Making an hfsplus partition bootable requires the ability to "bless" a file by putting its inode number in the volume header. Doing this from userspace on a mounted filesystem is impractical since the kernel will write back the original values on unmount. Add an ioctl to allow userspace to update the volume header information based on the target file. 2012-03-21hfsplus: change finder_info to u32Matthew Garrett
The finder_info block in the hfsplus volume header is currently defined as an array of 8 bit values, but TN1150 defines it as being an array of 32 bit values. Fix for convenience. 2012-03-21hfsplus: initialise userflagsMatthew Garrett
The userflags field was being written to the filesystem without being initialised. Make sure it's clear, since otherwise files end up with garbage attributes. 2012-01-04switch ->create() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_create() ignores everything outside of 16bit subset of its mode argument; switching it to umode_t is obviously equivalent and it's the only caller of the method Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-01-04switch vfs_mkdir() and ->mkdir() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_mkdir() gets int, but immediately drops everything that might not fit into umode_t and that's the only caller of ->mkdir()... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-01-04vfs: fix the stupidity with i_dentry in inode destructorsAl Viro
Seeing that just about every destructor got that INIT_LIST_HEAD() copied into it, there is no point whatsoever keeping this INIT_LIST_HEAD in inode_init_once(); the cost of taking it into inode_init_always() will be negligible for pipes and sockets and negative for everything else. Not to mention the removal of boilerplate code from ->destroy_inode() instances... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2011-09-15hfsplus: fix filesystem size checksChristoph Hellwig

Commit 6596528e391a ("hfsplus: ensure bio requests are not smaller than the hardware sectors") changed the pointers used for volume header allocations but failed to free the correct pointers in the error path path of hfsplus_fill_super() and hfsplus_read_wrapper. 2011-07-22hfsplus: ensure bio requests are not smaller than the hardware sectorsSeth Forshee
Currently all bio requests are 512 bytes, which may fail for media whose physical sector size is larger than this. Ensure these requests are not smaller than the block device logical block size. 2011-07-22hfsplus: Add additional range check to handle on-disk corruptionsNaohiro Aota
'recoff' is read from disk and used for an argument to memcpy, so if the value read from disk is larger than the page size, it result to "general protection fault". 2011-07-21fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlersJosef Bacik
Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. 2011-07-21fs: simplify the blockdev_direct_IO prototypeChristoph Hellwig
Simple filesystems always pass inode->i_sb_bdev as the block device argument, and never need a end_io handler. Let's simply things for them and for my grepping activity by dropping these arguments. The only thing not falling into that scheme is ext4, which passes and end_io handler without needing special flags (yet), but given how messy the direct I/O code there is use of __blockdev_direct_IO in one instead of two out of three cases isn't going to make a large difference anyway. 2011-07-21fs: move inode_dio_wait calls into ->setattrChristoph Hellwig
Let filesystems handle waiting for direct I/O requests themselves instead of doing it beforehand. This means filesystem-specific locks to prevent new dio referenes from appearing can be held. This is important to allow generalizing i_dio_count to non-DIO_LOCKING filesystems. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2011-06-30hfsplus: fix overflow in hfsplus_read_wrapperChristoph Hellwig
For partitions larger than 2TB or at such an offset the hfs wrapper code in hfsplus might overflow the range representable in a 32-bit data type. Make sure we use a sector_t for the arithmetics leading to it. I'm not sure this code can be readed at all as hfs itself never supported such large volumes. 2011-01-07fs: dcache reduce branches in lookup pathNick Piggin
Reduce some branches and memory accesses in dcache lookup by adding dentry flags to indicate common d_ops are set, rather than having to check them. This saves a pointer memory access (dentry->d_op) in common path lookup situations, and saves another pointer load and branch in cases where we have d_op but not the particular operation. Patched with: git grep -E '[.>]([[:space:]])*d_op([[:space:]])*=' | xargs sed -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)->d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\1, \2);/' -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)\.d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\&\1, \2);/' -i Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
2011-01-07fs: icache RCU free inodesNick Piggin
RCU free the struct inode. This will allow: - Subsequent store-free path walking patch. The inode must be consulted for permissions when walking, so an RCU inode reference is a must. - sb_inode_list_lock to be moved inside i_lock because sb list walkers who want to take i_lock no longer need to take sb_inode_list_lock to walk the list in the first place. This will simplify and optimize locking. - Could remove some nested trylock loops in dcache code - Could potentially simplify things a bit in VM land. Do not need to take the page lock to follow page->mapping. The downsides of this is the performance cost of using RCU. In a simple creat/unlink microbenchmark, performance drops by about 10% due to inability to reuse cache-hot slab objects. As iterations increase and RCU freeing starts kicking over, this increases to about 20%. In cases where inode lifetimes are longer (ie. many inodes may be allocated during the average life span of a single inode), a lot of this cache reuse is not applicable, so the regression caused by this patch is smaller. The cache-hot regression could largely be avoided by using SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU, however this adds some complexity to list walking and store-free path walking, so I prefer to implement this at a later date, if it is shown to be a win in real situations. I haven't found a regression in any non-micro benchmark so I doubt it will be a problem. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
2011-01-07fs: change d_hash for rcu-walkNick Piggin

2011-01-07fs: change d_compare for rcu-walkNick Piggin
Change d_compare so it may be called from lock-free RCU lookups. This does put significant restrictions on what may be done from the callback, however there don't seem to have been any problems with in-tree fses. If some strange use case pops up that _really_ cannot cope with the rcu-walk rules, we can just add new rcu-unaware callbacks, which would cause name lookup to drop out of rcu-walk mode. For in-tree filesystems, this is just a mechanical change. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
