2016-05-06perf hists: Move sort__need_collapse into struct perf_hpp_listJiri Olsa
Now we have sort dimensions private for struct hists, we need to make dimension booleans hists specific as well. Moving sort__need_collapse into struct perf_hpp_list. Adding hists__has macro to easily access this info perf struct hists object. 2016-03-23perf tools: Add cpumode to struct perf_sampleArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
To avoid parsing event->header.misc in many locations. This will also allow setting perf.sample.{ip,cpumode} in a single place, from tracepoint fields, as needed by 'perf kvm' with PPC guests, where the guest hardware counters is not available at the host. 2016-01-11perf test: Fix false TEST_OK result for 'perf test hist'Wang Nan
Commit 71d6de64fedd ("perf test: Fix hist testcases when kptr_restrict is on") solves a double free problem when 'perf test hist' calling setup_fake_machine(). However, the result is still incorrect. For example: $ ./perf test -v 'filtering hist entries' 25: Test filtering hist entries : --- start --- test child forked, pid 4186 Cannot create kernel maps test child finished with 0 ---- end ---- Test filtering hist entries: Ok In this case the body of this test is not get executed at all, but the result is 'Ok'. Actually, in setup_fake_machine() there's no need to create real kernel maps. What we want are the fake maps. This patch removes the machine__create_kernel_maps() in setup_fake_machine(), so it won't be affected by kptr_restrict setting. Test result: $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/kptr_restrict 1 $ ~/perf test -v hist 15: Test matching and linking multiple hists : --- start --- test child forked, pid 24031 test child finished with 0 ---- end ---- Test matching and linking multiple hists: Ok [SNIP] Suggested-and-Acked-by: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Wang Nan <wangnan0@huawei.com> Tested-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Cc: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@kernel.org> Cc: Masami Hiramatsu <masami.hiramatsu.pt@hitachi.com> Cc: Zefan Li <lizefan@huawei.com> Cc: pi3orama@163.com Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1452520124-2073-12-git-send-email-wangnan0@huawei.com Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
2015-12-14perf test: Fix hist testcases when kptr_restrict is onNamhyung Kim
Currently if kptr_restrict is enabled, all hist tests failed with segfaults. This is because machine__create_kernel_maps() in setup_fake_machine() failed in that situation, and it called machine__delete() on the error path. But outer callers again called machines__exit() causing double free for the host machine. 2015-12-07perf test: Create kernel maps properly for hist entries testJiri Olsa
It fixes segfault within machine__exit, that's caused but not creating kernel maps for machine.. 2015-06-08perf tools: Reference count struct dsoArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
This has a different model than the 'thread' and 'map' struct lifetimes: there is not a definitive "don't use this DSO anymore" event, i.e. we may get many 'struct map' holding references to the '/usr/lib64/libc-2.20.so' DSO but then at some point some DSO may have no references but we still don't want to straight away release its resources, because "soon" we may get a new 'struct map' that needs it and we want to reuse its symtab or other resources. So we need some way to garbage collect it when crossing some memory usage threshold, which is left for anoter patch, for now it is sufficient to release it when calling dsos__exit(), i.e. when deleting the whole list as part of deleting the 'struct machine' containing it, which will leave only referenced objects being used. Similar to machine__findnew_thread(), also prepping for refcounting and locking, this time for struct dso instances. 2015-05-29perf machine: No need to have two DSOs listsArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
We can, given a DSO, figure out if it is a kernel, a kernel module or a userlevel DSO, so stop having to process two lists in several functions. If searching becomes an issue at some point, we can have them in a rbtree, etc.
2015-05-08perf machine: Protect the machine->threads with a rwlockArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
In addition to using refcounts for the struct thread lifetime management, we need to protect access to machine->threads from concurrent access. That happens in 'perf top', where a thread processes events, inserting and deleting entries from that rb_tree while another thread decays hist_entries, that end up dropping references and ultimately deleting threads from the rb_tree and releasing its resources when no further hist_entry (or other data structures, like in 'perf sched') references it. So the rule is the same for refcounts + protected trees in the kernel, get the tree lock, find object, bump the refcount, drop the tree lock, return, use object, drop the refcount if no more use of it is needed, keep it if storing it in some other data structure, drop when releasing that data structure. I.e. pair "t = machine__find(new)_thread()" with a "thread__put(t)", and "perf_event__preprocess_sample(&al)" with "addr_location__put(&al)". The addr_location__put() one is because as we return references to several data structures, we may end up adding more reference counting for the other data structures and then we'll drop it at addr_location__put() time.
