2011-03-27rename _end to __bss_end__Po-Yu Chuang
Currently, _end is used for end of BSS section. We want _end to mean end of u-boot image, so we rename _end to __bss_end__ first. Signed-off-by: Po-Yu Chuang <ratbert@faraday-tech.com>

2010-11-17Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier
Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
2010-10-18Makefile: move all Power Architecture boards into boards.cfgWolfgang Denk
Clean up Makefile, and drop a lot of the config.mk files on the way. We now also automatically pick all boards that are listed in boards.cfg (and with all configurations), so we can drop the redundant entries from MAKEALL to avoid building these twice. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
2010-10-18Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk
The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. 2010-09-23ppc4xx: Move ppc4xx headers to powerpc include directoryStefan Roese
This patch moves some ppc4xx related headers from the common include directory (include/) to the powerpc specific one (arch/powerpc/include/asm/). This way to common include directory is not so cluttered with files. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
2010-08-03Rename getenv_r() into getenv_f()Wolfgang Denk
While running from flash, i. e. before relocation, we have only a limited C runtime environment without writable data segment. In this phase, some configurations (for example with environment in EEPROM) must not use the normal getenv(), but a special function. This function had been called getenv_r(), with the idea that the "_r" suffix would mean the same as in the _r_eentrant versions of some of the C library functions (for example getdate vs. getdate_r, getgrent vs. getgrent_r, etc.). Unfortunately this was a misleading name, as in U-Boot the "_r" generally means "running from RAM", i. e. _after_ relocation. To avoid confusion, rename into getenv_f() [as "running from flash"] Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Acked-by: Detlev Zundel <dzu@denx.de>
2010-04-21Move arch/ppc to arch/powerpcStefan Roese
As discussed on the list, move "arch/ppc" to "arch/powerpc" to better match the Linux directory structure. Please note that this patch also changes the "ppc" target in MAKEALL to "powerpc" to match this new infrastructure. But "ppc" is kept as an alias for now, to not break compatibility with scripts using this name. 2010-04-13Rename lib_generic/ to lib/Peter Tyser
Now that the other architecture-specific lib directories have been moved out of the top-level directory there's not much reason to have the '_generic' suffix on the common lib directory. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
2010-04-13Move lib_$ARCH directories to arch/$ARCH/libPeter Tyser
Also move lib_$ARCH/config.mk to arch/$ARCH/config.mk This change is intended to clean up the top-level directory structure and more closely mimic Linux's directory organization. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
2009-11-02ppc4xx: Remove board specific linker scripts from most PPC4xx boardsStefan Roese
All these linker scripts can be removed since the new common ppc4xx linker script should be able to handle all of those boards. Please test and report problems. Thanks. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
2009-10-03ppc: Enable full relocation to RAMPeter Tyser
The following changes allow U-Boot to fully relocate from flash to RAM: - Remove linker scripts' .fixup sections from the .text section - Add -mrelocatable to PLATFORM_RELFLAGS for all boards - Define CONFIG_RELOC_FIXUP_WORKS for all boards Previously, U-Boot would partially relocate, but statically initialized pointers needed to be manually relocated. 2009-09-28ppc4xx: Convert PPC4xx SDRAM defines from lower case to upper caseStefan Roese
The latest PPC4xx register cleanup patch missed some SDRAM defines. This patch now changes lower case UIC defines to upper case. Also some names are changed to match the naming in the IBM/AMCC users manuals (e.g. mem_mcopt1 -> SDRAM0_CFG). Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>

2009-09-11ppc4xx: Big cleanup of PPC4xx definesStefan Roese
This patch cleans up multiple issues of the 4xx register (mostly DCR, SDR, CPR, etc) definitions: - Change lower case defines to upper case (plb4_acr -> PLB4_ACR) - Change the defines to better match the names from the user's manuals (e.g. cprpllc -> CPR0_PLLC) - Removal of some unused defines Please test this patch intensive on your PPC4xx platform. Even though I tried not to break anything and tested successfully on multiple 4xx AMCC platforms, testing on custom platforms is recommended. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
2009-08-09Dual-license IBM code contributionsJosh Boyer
It was brought to our attention that U-Boot contains code derived from the IBM OpenBIOS source code originally provided with some of the older PowerPC 4xx development boards. As a result, the original license of this code has been carried in the various files for a number of years in the U-Boot project. IBM is dual-licensing the IBM code contributions already present in U-Boot under either the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2, or the original code license already present. 2009-04-03Add "source" command; prepare removal of "autoscr" commandWolfgang Denk
According to the doc/feature-removal-schedule.txt, the "autoscr" command will be replaced by the "source" command in approximately 6 months from now. This patch prepares this change and starts a 6 month transition period as follows: - The new "source" command has been added, which implements exactly the same functionlaity as the old "autoscr" command before - The old "autoscr" command name is kept as an alias for compatibility - Command sequences, script files atc. have been adapted to use the new "source" command - Related environment variables ("autoscript", "autoscript_uname") have *not* been adapted yet; these will be renamed resp. removed in a separate patch when the support for the "autoscr" command get's finally dropped. 2009-03-20Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho
A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>
2008-11-18Align end of bss by 4 bytesSelvamuthukumar

2008-06-12Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce
This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>
2008-06-03ppc4xx: Remove superfluous dram_init() call or replace it by initdram()Stefan Roese
Historically the 405 U-Boot port had a dram_init() call in early init stage. This function was still called from start.S and most of the time coded in assembler. This is not needed anymore (since a long time) and boards should implement the common initdram() function in C instead. This patch now removed the dram_init() call from start.S and removes the empty implementations that are scattered through most of the 405 board ports. Some older board ports really implement this dram_init() though. These are: csb272 csb472 ERIC EXBITGEN W7OLMC W7OLMG I changed those boards to call this assembler dram_init() function now from their board specific initdram() instead. This *should* work, but please test again on those platforms. And it is perhaps a good idea that those boards use some common 405 SDRAM initialization code from cpu/ppc4xx at some time. So further patches welcome here. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
2008-05-20Big white-space cleanup.Wolfgang Denk

2008-03-20LWMON5: POST RTC fixYuri Tikhonov
Modify the RTC API to provide one a status for the time reported by the rtc_get() function: 0 - a reliable time is guaranteed, < 0 - a reliable time isn't guaranteed (power fault, clock issues, and so on). The RTC chip drivers are responsible for providing this info if the corresponding chip supports such functionality. If not - always report that the time is reliable. The POST RTC test was modified to detect the RTC faults utilizing this new rtc_get() feature. Signed-off-by: Yuri Tikhonov <yur@emcraft.com>
2008-02-29[new uImage] Update naming convention for bootm/uImage related codeMarian Balakowicz

2008-02-25[new uImage] Add dual format uImage support frameworkMarian Balakowicz
This patch adds framework for dual format images. Format detection is added and the bootm controll flow is updated to include cases for new FIT format uImages. When the legacy (image_header based) format is detected appropriate legacy specific handling is invoked. 2008-01-12Fix linker scripts: add NOLOAD atribute to .bss/.sbss sectionsWolfgang Denk
With recent toolchain versions, some boards would not build because or errors like this one (here for ocotea board when building with ELDK 4.2 beta): ppc_4xx-ld: section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff23b] overlaps section .bss [fffee900 -> fffff8ab] For many boards, the .bss section is big enough that it wraps around at the end of the address space (0xFFFFFFFF), so the problem will not be visible unless you use a 64 bit tool chain for development. On some boards however, changes to the code size (due to different optimizations) we bail out with section overlaps like above. The fix is to add the NOLOAD attribute to the .bss and .sbss sections, telling the linker that .bss does not consume any space in the image. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
2007-10-31ppc4xx: Rework of 4xx serial driver (2)Stefan Roese
Change all linker scripts to reference the changed driver name 4xx_uart.o. Note: In most cased all these explicit referencing of these object files in the linker scripts is not neccessary. 2007-02-20[PATCH] PPC4xx: Add support for multiple I2C bussesStefan Roese
This patch adds support for multiple I2C busses on the PPC4xx platforms. Define CONFIG_I2C_MULTI_BUS in the board config file to make use of this feature. It also merges the 405 and 440 i2c header files into one common file 4xx_i2c.h. Also the 4xx i2c reset procedure is reworked since I experienced some problems with the first access on the 440SPe Katmai board. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>

2006-09-01Add support for a saving build objects in a separate directory.Marian Balakowicz
Modifications are based on the linux kernel approach and support two use cases: 1) Add O= to the make command line 'make O=/tmp/build all' 2) Set environement variable BUILD_DIR to point to the desired location 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' 'make' The second approach can also be used with a MAKEALL script 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' './MAKEALL' Command line 'O=' setting overrides BUILD_DIR environent variable. When none of the above methods is used the local build is performed and the object files are placed in the source directory.
