The Display Controller Unit (DCU) module is a system master that
fetches graphics stored in internal or external memory and displays
them on a TFT LCD panel. A wide range of panel sizes is supported
and the timing of the interface signals is highly configurable.
Graphics are read directly from memory and then blended in real-time,
which allows for dynamic content creation with minimal CPU intervention.
The features:
(1) Full RGB888 output to TFT LCD panel.
(2) For the current LCD panel, WQVGA "480x272" is supported.
(3) Blending of each pixel using up to 4 source layers dependent on
size of panel.
(4) Each graphic layer can be placed with one pixel resolution in
either axis.
(5) Each graphic layer support RGB565 and RGB888 direct colors without
alpha channel and BGRA8888 direct colors with an alpha channel.
(6) Each graphic layer support alpha blending with 8-bit resolution.

commit f5d2b7c28b67d627646b6a0142bc201a7b1516b0 upstream.
Documentation/fb/modedb.txt states that video=option should be
considered a global option. But video_setup and fb_get_options are not
coded that way. Instead its required to boot with video=driver:option to
set a given option in drvier. This is cumbersome because it requires to
know in advance which driver will be active for a given board/kernel.
The following patch implements the documented catchall for the fbdev
drivers. It is now possible to boot with video=XxY without the need to
know the active driver in advance. The specific case it tries to fix is
syslinux in the SUSE installer which offers a menu to set a display
resolution. Right now this just appends the vga= option the kernel. But
in addition to vga= it should be possible to pass a generic video=XxY
for all framebuffer/drm drivers. With this change forcing a certain
window size of VM displays is now much easier.
Today the video= option is stored in a global fb_mode_option. But
unfortunately only drm uses it.
Note: this change introduces a small memleak if video=option is actually
used because fb_mode_option is const. Most drivers use strsep to get to
individual options. This could be fixed in a followup patch which always
releases the option string in every caller of fb_get_options.

So far the DIU driver does not have a mechanism to do the
board specific initialization. So on some platforms,
such as P1022, 8610 and 5121, The board specific initialization
is implmented in the platform file such p10222_ds.
Actually, the DIU is already intialized in the u-boot, the pin sharing
and the signal routing are also set in u-boot. So we can leverage that
in kernel driver to avoid board sepecific initialization, especially
for the corenet platform, which is the abstraction for serveral
platfroms.
The potential problem is that when the system wakeup from the deep
sleep, some platform settings may need to be re-initialized. The CPLD
and FPGA settings will be kept, but the pixel clock register which
usually locate at the global utility space need to be reinitialized.
Generally, the pixel clock setting was implemented in the platform
file, But the pixel clock register itself should be part of the DIU
module, And for P1022,8610 and T1040, the pixel clock register have the
same structure, So we can consider to move the pixel clock setting
from the platform to the diu driver. This patch provide the options
set the pixel clock in the diu driver. But the original platform pixel
clock setting stil can be used for P1022,8610 and 512x without any
update. To implement the pixel clock setting in the diu driver. the
following update in the diu dts node was needed.
display:display@180000 {
compatible = "fsl,t1040-diu", "fsl,diu";
- reg = <0x180000 1000>;
+ reg = <0x180000 1000 0xfc028 4>;
pixclk = <0 255 0>;
interrupts = <74 2 0 0>;
}
The 0xfc028 is the offset for pixel clock register. the 3 segment of
the pixclk stand for the PXCKDLYDIR, the max of PXCK and the
PXCKDLY which will be used by the pixel clock register setting.
This was tested on T1040 platform. For other platform, the original
node together with the platform settings still can work.
The binding update also included in this patch.

commit 55aa42f2e690157e254a6a6989f5f4ac928b35c8 upstream.
The dmi_list array is initialized using gnu designated initializers, and
therefore may contain fewer explicitly defined entries as there are
elements in it. This is because the enum above with M_xyz constants
contains more items than the designated initializer. Those elements not
explicitly initialized are implicitly set to 0.
Now efifb_setup() loops through all these array elements, and performs
a strcmp on each item. For non explicitly initialized elements this will
be a null pointer:
This patch swaps the check order in the if statement, thus checks first
whether dmi_list[i].base is null.

commit 51c71a3bbaca868043cc45b3ad3786dd48a90235 upstream.
The user has the option of disabling the platform driver:

or
xen_emul_unplug=never

except it does not work properly. The PV drivers still try to
load and since the Xen platform driver is not run - and it
has not initialized the grant tables, most of the PV drivers

commit c37dd677988ca50bc8bc60ab5ab053720583c168 upstream.
When booting Nokia N900 smartphone with v3.12 + omap2plus_defconfig
(LOCKDEP enabled) and CONFIG_DISPLAY_PANEL_SONY_ACX565AKM enabled,
the following BUG is seen during the boot:
[ 7.302154] =====================================
[ 7.307128] [ BUG: bad unlock balance detected! ]
[ 7.312103] 3.12.0-los.git-2093492-00120-g5e01dc7 #3 Not tainted
[ 7.318450] -------------------------------------
[ 7.323425] kworker/u2:1/12 is trying to release lock (&ddata->mutex) at:
[ 7.330657] [<c031b760>] acx565akm_enable+0x12c/0x18c
[ 7.335998] but there are no more locks to release!
Fix by removing double unlock and handling the locking completely inside
acx565akm_panel_power_on() when doing the power on.

commit 0219132fe7c26574371232b50db085573f6fbd3f upstream.
STI text console (sticon) was broken on 64bit machines with more than
4GB RAM and this lead in some cases to a kernel crash.
Since sticon uses the 32bit STI API it needs to keep pointers to memory
below 4GB. But on a 64bit kernel some memory regions (e.g. the kernel
stack) might be above 4GB which then may crash the kernel in the STI
functions.
Additionally sticon didn't selected the built-in framebuffer fonts by
default. This is now fixed.
On a side-note: Theoretically we could enhance the sticon driver to
use the 64bit STI API. But - beside the fact that some machines don't
provide a 64bit STI ROM - this would just add complexity.

commit 7ad9684721606efbfb9b347346816e1e6baff8bb upstream.
This patch adds a pci stub driver to hyper-fb. The hyperv framebuffer
driver will bind to the pci device then, so linux kernel and userspace
know there is a proper kernel driver for the device active. lspci shows
this for example:
[root@dhcp231 ~]# lspci -vs8
00:08.0 VGA compatible controller: Microsoft Corporation Hyper-V virtual
VGA (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
Memory at f8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64M]
Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
Kernel driver in use: hyperv_fb
Another effect is that the xorg vesa driver will not attach to the
device and thus the Xorg server will automatically use the fbdev
driver instead.

Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King:
"This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
fixing some bugs as we go.
Some of the more serious errors include:
- drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
set the streaming mask fails.
- drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.
To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
- dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
error handling as specified by the API.
- dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for
future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
disruptive.
The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
ignored.
Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux
architecture as far as those go"
